Nestled just outside of the beautiful Sautee Valley in Georgia, Bellwether Ridge is an endeavor to combine a busy family with a piece of land and a small flock of sheep.
Our original and primary focus has been the American Jacob Sheep. We obtained our first Jacob ewes in 2020. Jacob sheep are known as a "Heritage" breed. Their appearance is easily recognizable, they sport a spotted coat and anywhere from 2 to 6 horns. The Livestock Conservancy has them categorized as a threatened breed in the United States. Our love for our Jacobs and our interest in Heritage breeds both continue to grow.
Our goal is to preserve the Jacob breed by maintaining stock that are acceptable to The Jacob Sheep Breeders Association (JSBA) breed standards. Along with preservation, we are learning and working towards supplying quality fleeces, wool, wool-products, yarn, and meat . Purchases available directly, via social media, or via Etsy link below.
